"Unblessed Witch" by M. Sinclair; Book Review

Unblessed Witch is the fourth and final book in the Phases of the Moon series by M. Sinclair. Released in November of 2024, it completed this Dark Imaginarium Academy series as an engrossing read for dark romance fans. Featuring additional themes of multiple mates, brutal growth through abuse and trauma, coming of age and discovery of power, this completes series is truly a page turner that will have you hungry for more.

This series follows a trained assassin witch who has escaped intense horrors, finding herself at a school called the Dark Imaginarium Academy. Here, she has the chance to hone her magical powers and start a new life away from her past of murder and abuse. Upon her arrival to the academy, she meets five men attending the school who immediately take place as love interests, initiating themes of reverse harem. This final book in the series follows the FMC and MMC's, as they recover our FMC from a kidnapping, and ultimately put an end to her original abuser's life and agenda.

The plot of Unblessed Witch has, what I consider to be, a non-traditional plot structure. There are several climaxes throughout this book, with the first pages containing one of the most intense moments in the novel. We are left with a gradual decline in climax, the ending a peaceful resolution. There is no build and then decline of climax in this book, as with traditionally composed stories. The most intense moments begin immediately, though this is likely because this book is a continuation of a larger story. With that said, I greatly enjoyed the plot structure, as it left me on edge the entire read; up until the resolution that most readers hoped to see for this story.

The romance aspect of Unblessed Witch was true to its claim of dark romance, with a reverse harem group of morally grey men who would, quite literally, kill for the FMC. The development of each individual MMC's relationship with the FMC is thorough and intense, showcasing each love interest's personality well. The relationships are well nurtured, fostering an emotional foundation for each MMC that eagerly draws the reader in. All in all, the reverse harem dark romance aspect of this novel was well executed.

The conclusion of Unblessed Witch was everything the reader could hope for, expertly tying up all loose ends to create an ending that is satisfying and thorough. There were moments throughout the novel that truly had the reader believing the desired ending may not be in sight, leaving the final conclusion to be a relief. M. Sinclair's ability to maintain a story that engulfs the reader entirely is well done, and shows her experience as a writer. To conclude, the Phases of the Moon series is high on my list of recommendations, with its last novel Unblessed Witch satisfyingly concluding an unforgettable story.
